Where I'm From
by Divisha Daswani
Where I'm from I see big yellow buses
Buzzing like bees down in the street
Out from my window below my apartment
Where I'm from I walk past
The park from my childhood
With the new kids playing so happily
Where I'm from I can hear people
Pronounce the "Th" instead of "S"
I hear people playing instruments
They sing in the streets like life in a musical
I hear birds chasing the wind
And the ocean dancing Flamenco
Where I'm from I taste Churros con chocolate caliente
And I taste my grandma's
Old Secret Cheesecake Recipe
Where I'm from I feel the rough palm tree skin
Like the outside of a seashell
And I smell the ocean where my grandma's ashes lie
Where I'm from I feel the fresh pillows waiting for me
and feel the cool metal doorbell of my house
That greets me when I come back home
