Where I'm From
by Nicholas Mitri
Where I'm from I see a ball of fire slowly awakening and painting
A new day out of nothingness
Where I'm from I taste the pancakes slowly melting in my mouth
Like chocolate as I get ready to go to school
Where I'm from I hear birds encouraging me to drop food
Like vultures eyeing their prey
Where I'm from I grab the door handle as ideas flood my head
As I start to leave
Where I'm from I smell the fresh, foggy air like a fresh mint leaf
As I walk on my way to school
Where I'm from I see an American flag flapping like an old friend
Saying hi
Where I'm from is Houston, Texas
